In Memory of William R. Thrift
William R. (Bill) Thrift, 67, of Hayesville died Monday, June 28, 2010. He was a native of Wenatchee, WA, but had lived in Lake City, FL before moving to Clay County in 2006. He worked for 18 years in the Panama Canal Zone as a police officer and then served as Director of the Law Enforcement Academy at Lake City Community College until 2005.
Bill Thrift was instrumental in forming the Mountain Coin Club. Along with Nancy White Kelly, Bill began putting the wheels in motion in September of 2009. Charlie Sowers and Charlie Johnston soon joined them in their efforts.
Bill Thrift was the first president of the Mountain Coin Club. He will be remembered as a friend and fellow collector. He is greatly missed by everyone in the community.
